Manchester City won the English Premier League title on Sunday after rivals Manchester United stumbled to defeat against relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion. Jose Mourinho's United team had needed to win against West Brom to keep the title race alive but surprisingly lost at home as Jay Rodriguez's header gave the league's bottom side a 1-0 win at Old Trafford. On Saturday, City had convincingly beaten Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 and manager Pep Guardiola said he was going to play golf with his son rather than watch United play West Brom. Guardiola's team has lost only two league games this season and if they win their remaining five games would end the campaign with 102 points. Guardiola's men clinched the league with 5 games to spare         City re-established a 16-point lead at the top of the table on Saturday when they ended a run of three successive defeats with a 3-1 victory away at Tottenham Hotspur. Last week went from bad to worse for Manchester City. After a humbling 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals, they had the chance to bounce back in a big way: a Manchester Derby face-off between them and 2nd-placed United, with the added stakes of a win, finally clinching the title. Pep Guardiola's side seemed to be cruising to the crown as they went in at the break with a 2-0 lead, but United conjured an extraordinary response led by two-goal Paul Pogba before Chris Smalling hit the winner. The home side were controlling the opening stages but United offered some threat when Pogba was fouled on the left only for Alexis Sanchez to waste the free kick. Back came City and, after 21 minutes, David Silva got onto the end of a loose ball after good work from Raheem Sterling but sent his effort high and wide.
