City a win away from clinching their 5th Premier League title

Manchester City drew an emphatic line under a difficult week by moving to within one win of the Premier League title with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham. Gabriel Jesus' opener and an Ilkay Gundogan penalty moved Pep Guardiola's men to the brink of the title in a majestic opening 25 minutes at Wembley.

Pep Guardiola is on the brink of clinching the Premier League title after Manchester City’s magnificent victory at Wembley.
City boss Guardiola’s champions elect now just need one more win and can even be crowned tomorrow in the unlikely event that Manchester United lose at home to bottom-of-the-table West Brom.
This was a superb win as City recovered after three straight defeats - twice to Liverpool in the Chanpions League and to United in the Manchester derby - with a comprehensive victory to outclass Tottenham.
City were in command from the start and went ahead after just 22 minutes when Vincent Kompany’s perfect ball over the top released Gabriel Jesus, Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez was horribly exposed and the Brazil forward coolly slotted home.

Three minutes later, they scored again - but this time it was clouded by controversy. Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris brought down Raheem Sterling, TV replays showed it was outside the box and yet referee Jonathan Moss gave a penalty and booked Lloris.
City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan slotted home the penalty while maybe it was a blessing for Tottenham as Lloris could have been sent off if the referee had deemed it outside the box.
Tottenham clawed their way back into the game and Christian Eriksen pulled one back after 42 minutes and they the home side put City under pressure but could not find a way through.

City restored their dominance after 73 minutes when Lloris saved Jesus’s shot but Sterling pounced on the rebound and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to leave the visiting fans celebrating as if they have already clinched the title.
